I like the simplicity of this image as a symbol of the Gay Pride march and party in Bologna today.

The event also has a simple message of standing against discrimination and violence towards lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender people.

The Pride organisers are dedicating space to the memory of Daniel Zamudio, a 24-year-old Chilean who was beaten to death by a neo-nazi gang.

Daniel’s father, Ivan, who will be in Bologna, spoke of his hope that his son’s death will not be in vain and will show that we must all challenge homophobia whenever we encounter it.

He says in an interview with La Repubblica: “I want to remind all young people to be constantly on their guard, and for their parents to love their children for who they are;  to trust and protect them and to give them freedom”  . Hear hear.
