How do you feel about changing the world?  Nice idea, right?

Imagine, if you will, that you receive instructions on how to eliminate the negative forces of money-grabbing capitalism. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, would be to use the weapon provided  and work your way through the hit list.

You would need to be sure the targets were legitimate  and that the pistol was in full working order. If the gun proves to be defective you would have the power without the means to do wield it.

This is the premise, at least the way I read it, of Brooklyn’s Dirty Projectors‘ addictive new single Gun Has No Trigger.

Here’s a sample of the lyrics:  “If you had looked, you’d be no one’s coward – Distance, justice, power – You’d glimpse the password- You wouldn’t need the book- You’d own both slave and master – If you just had looked – But now the banks all closed – And nothing gets bigger – The crowd will yell – But the gun has no trigger”.

The song ,from the band’s new album Swing Lo Magellan, comes with a brilliant video directed by singer Dave Longstreth who explains that ” it is about the possibility for true dissent, and how I can’t figure out what that could be. What is a 2012 Exodus from the Society of the Spectacle (to mix language Situationist and Rastafari)? So we made a video from the iconography of the default profile image used by Facebook and Gmail.”
