The best picture in the overall category of this year’s  Nature Photographer of the Year competition, organised by the Society of German Nature Photographers (GDT), was deservedly won by 18-year-old Hermann Hirsch.

His photo of a fox looking both predatory and vulnerable is marvellous and I wonder if I could ever take a shot as good as this.

A good workman never blames his tools, I suppose, but when  I take a look at the mega-camera Hirsch uses,  I  know what the answer is NO!
